QPR Gatekeeper – Suicide Prevention
Suicidal behavior has been a steady increase in Wisconsin. Chances are you may know of someone who has died by suicide. The more we as a community are educated about suicide, the more we can build confidence and competence in ourselves in order to help someone who may feel suicide is his/her only option. Being trained as a QPR Gatekeeper will not only educate you about the facts of suicide and depression, it will provide training for three simple tools needed to identify and help those who are contemplating suicide. The three tools are: Question, knowing how and when to ask if someone is suicidal; Persuade, knowing how to talk someone into receiving help; and Refer, providing the individual with the resources to get the help s/he needs. We have every reason to hope.
